RANDOM FRIDAY {Autumn In A Glass}

Pumpkin Martini

I love fabulous moments. Especially when I discover things that make me smile. The Pumpkin Martini has long been a favorite cocktail for fall. I rescently tried a few fall-inspired drinks and the two below were for sure made me smile and want to put on a winter coat and go ice skating in Central Park although I live in LA.

Although it has recently become difficult, well impossible, to find pumpkin schnapps or any pumpkin liqueur. Until another pumpkin liqueur comes on the market again you can substitute pumpkin spice syrup or pumpkin puree. You might also want to check out the Pumpkin Spice Martini, and  Pumpkin Divine

Ingredients

  • 1/2 oz Sylk Cream Liqueur
  • 2 oz vanilla vodka
  • 1/2 oz pumpkin liqueur or pumpkin spice syrup
  • 1 tsp whipped cream
  • 1 cinnamon stick for garnish

Preparation:

  1. Pour the Sylk Liqueur and vodka into a shaker filled with ice.
  2. Shake well.
  3. Add the pumpkin liqueur or syrup.
  4. Shake again.
  5. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
  6. Top with a teaspoon of whipped cream.
  7. Garnish with a cinnamon stick

Ginger Smash

ginger and cranberries are in season, and barkeeps Jason Kosmas and Dushan Zaric are muddling them with apple liqueur and wet gin in their throat-tickling Ginger Smash(recipe) by Jason Kosmas and Dushan Zaric of Employees Only in New York. Pomegranates are also peaking as they combine with brandy, chai-infused vermouth, and a touch of lemon juice in the spicy Mata Hari (recipe). Garnished with dried rose buds, this slightly creamy, sweet-and-sour drink tastes almost like melted gelato.

Happy Friday.

A PINK ROMANCE {Shiran + Shay}

I love brides that know exactly what they want. As a wedding planner, it’s worth gold. This was the case with Shiran. When I first started discussing with her the details of her wedding, the first thing she told me was ” hot pink, but not too pink.” We worked on all the details and the outcome was a fabulous moment.  Black, White and Hot Pink. But not too much hot pink. The couple had tons of fun taking some photos at Rodeo Drive before their ceremony and reception with Vladimir of Signature Exposure Photography whom I love working with.

The Chuppah, (used for Jewish wedding ceremony) was a clean sheer white draping created with beautiful organza and pink lighting to stay with the modern feel and look of the venue and colors the bride selected. We incorporated some white sleek furniture to complete the look.

Tall hot pink center pieces with black and white damask overlays and white satin linens overlays were used to complete the look.

Vintage Western Engagement {Nikki + Jeremy}

On Oct 1st  I had the pleasure of working with Jodi & David Ross of R & R Photography. I’ve seen their work and it is always flawless, creative and remarkable, but seeing the two in action is inspiring. I’ve been looking forward for a while to have the opportunity to work with them and it finally happened. The duo work in amazing sync. Watching them from far is almost like watching a dance. Graceful and elegant. Just as their photography.

RANDOM FRIDAY {La La Lemon Bars}

The debate of vanilla vs chocolate has been going on for years and I personally don’t see an answer to the debate on the horizon. To me it seems like a black vs. white, but what about the gray area in the middle?

I’m proud to admit it, but I am truly a lemon bar snob. Well, maybe snob is a bit hash, but my preferences and standards when it comes to lemon bars are quite high.  I love delicate, buttery curst with a “snap” to it. The top crust must be perfectly balanced so its not more than half of the overall height of the lemon bar, otherwise its to crisp and it becomes a cookie.  If it’s thiner, I end up with a messy gummy mess of an underdone crust.

Rather than a milky cream – like lemon bar, I prefer that the lemon flavor is dominant and tart enough to make my mouth pucker a teeny bit, but not too much. I am sure that there are those who prefer the creamy milky type. They too deserve to be in the dessert kingdom, but  for me, I love that tart yellow ones.  I prefer my lemon bars dusted with confectioner’s sugar but not so much that when you pick it up for a bite the sugar falls all over the table (or your neighbor).

I can stay away from many types of sweets for the sake of eating healthy and not falling off the “diet wagon,” but put a lemon bar in front of me, and all my willpower is gone. Very similar to the effect cryptonite had on Superman.

I’ve tasted many lemon bars in my lifetime and have narrowed down the best L.A eateries and bakeries that have the “it” lemon bar.

FALL IN LOVE {Autumn Weddings Inspiration Board}

As much as I love the Summer, as we near the month of August, I cannot help but think of the fast approaching Autumn months and Fall weddings. I love the colors that the leaves turn on the trees, and the deep hughes of orange, golds and browns that surround us in nature.  There is so many details that can be included which will make your wedding memorable and truly unique to you as a couple.  I had a Autumn wedding and really used burned orange colors to my advantage.  Below are some inspired ideas.

Black & White Vintage Glam – {Inspiration Board}

Over the weekend I met with a bride and groom who will be exchanging their vows in July. I am truly excited about this wedding because the bride loves vintage inspired designs and details. Two of my favorites design elements in a wedding. I created several inspiration boards for the couple before the meeting to help define exactly what they liked about black and white (with a splash of red) and what they did not. She fell in love with the more vintage-inspired glam ideas which I was able to collect from my co-bloggers and wedding planners. Thank you all for inspiring me. Below are some of the boards created.

SAIL AWAY – Moroccan-inspired Sweet 16

When I first met Alexa’s father over a year ago, I knew this would be a special Sweet 16.  He has been looking forward to giving his daughter her dream party and therefore took an interest in every detail of the event so it would be perfect. The Sweet 16 party took place aboard the FantaSea One, Marina Del Rey’s largest luxury yacht owned by FantaSea Yachts & Yacht Club.

Meeting Alexa was a breathe of fresh air. She was not your typical 16-year-old. I would describe her as sophisticated, stylish and elegant. Her Sweet 16 was not going to be an over-the-top colorful and glittery event. Oh no!  Alexa had her own distinct style for sure which I loved. She loves clean lines, modern and chic design elements.

We spent many hours together discussing what she likes in order to create  a concept that will portray  her style throughout. To tie in  to the yacht and  ocean, we selected white satin linens with sheer patterned Tiffany blue organza overlay for the main dining deck with matching chair ties for accent that worked great with the gold Chivary chairs and gold accents of the room. Linens were custom made by CMC Party Rentals. The table were decorated with tall multi level cylinders with Tiffany blue sand, sea shells and white orchids submerged in water. Additionally we incorporated a bit of “bling” with crystal-like crusted votives and DIY crystal picture frames that really tied it all together. Chic, and Elegant

Some additional details included: Guests were greeted at the lower deck by the amazing Flamenco guitarist Richard Hastings.  Seating cards tied to Tiffany blue, cream and navy blue star fish, buoy with Alexa’s name and event date on it and a beautiful cake by Cake Divas. Jonie and Leigh did a fabulous job once again, this time  creating an ocean-inspired cake carefully decorated with gold leafed shells and a clam. Thank you!

Another important detail for Alexa and her father was to incorporate their heritage into the event. Being Jewish-Morrocan, we decided to create a Moroccan lounge on the top deck under the stars with authentic Moroccan furniture, carpets, lanterns and tea service.
